She told ET that the idea is to leverage the infrastructure data available on the portal to extend social security coverage to workers engaged in existing and upcoming industrial clusters around these projects while also ensuring availability of Employees' State Insurance Corporation's hospital and dispensary in the closest vicinity to these clusters.

The Supreme Court has ruled that interest-free or concessional loans given by banks to their employees will be considered "fringe benefits" or "amenities" and therefore taxable. The court argued that these benefits are unique to bank employees and are in the nature of a "perquisite," thus liable to taxation. The court upheld the income tax rule, but deemed the fixation of SBI's interest rate as the benchmark to be neither arbitrary nor unequal exercise of power.
The ministry of labour and employment is considering several options including a gradual repeal of the old labour laws to ensure there is no legal void in states that are yet to draft rules. Besides, the ministry is holding talks with states that are behind in publishing rules, urging them to expedite their compliance.
